MTFSA Annual General Meeting
Wednesday 3rd September 2008, the MTFSA hosts the Annual General Meeting along with the presentation of 2007/2008. After the presentation of the trophies to the winners, the AGM was held. The interest in our sport is decreasing to become very minimum and the assistance to the MTFSA committee is almost none. Joe Zammit Pavia, Hansel Mallia, Joe Borg Bonaci and Charles Aquilina will be the new BoD for the upcoming season. From the meeting, it clearly evolved that if Hansel Mallia had not to submit himself for the committee no national competitions will be held as no one is interested in hosting any competition. besides having almost 50 members in its list, only 7 attended to the meeting and disappointment was clear on the BoD members' faces.
The next season will kick off in the 3rd weekend of October where at the new premises in Hamrun, the 1st Local Event will be held to obtain points for the final day and end of the season to be held in May 2009.
Due to the Italian League, the MTFSA had to change the Grand Prix date set for April and acceptance to the new proposed date is encountered from the International Federation, the FISTF. Until then, the 2008/2009 calendar cannot be issued. Further news to come.

Mark Gauci crowned Maltese King

During the third weekend of May, the MTFSA came to its end of season championship when at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, the Malta Championship was organized. A total of eight players played the league against each other in this one day event. All matches were tight as all players have been recently showing great performance. The Premier division was made up from Joe Mifsud, Derek Conti, Joe Borg Bonaci, Hansel Mallia, Samuel Bartolo, Mark Gauci, Charles Aquilina and Adrian Bonnici.
During the first matches nothing was yet decided as all players lost points against each others’ opponents. However after five games, Mallia was leading the table with 11 points winning over Mifsud 3-1 and Bonaci 2-1, followed by Mifsud with 10 points and Gauci and Bartolo aligned with both 8 points. The last matches meant to be decisive and the direct matches were scheduled. This meant that several changes took place with the title bouncing from one player to another with Gauci, Mallia, Mifsud, Bartolo and Bonaci all heading for the final run.
However, Gauci kept his nerves and obtained two consecutive wins to leave his direct opponents stuck to lost points in draw matches to gain lead and finishing winner of this competition and crowned Maltese Champion. With this title, Gauci will be the top Maltese players representing Malta in the individual competition of the World Cup this summer. SamuelBartolo will be the second top Maltese after winning the Malta Cup, while Massimo Cremona obtained direct qualification from the World Rankings.

Matthew Pace wins the U/15
After a thrilling final run in the organised events this season, Matthew Pace confirmed his talent winning the U/15 championship just after winning the U/12 World Cup in France last year. The U/15 Championship was based on three local events of which who won most points would win the title. This competition involved 9 local youth talents but Pace showed character along the events to end on top of tha table and winning the title for the first time.

Josef Camilleri wins the 1st Division title
In the most easiest way, Josef Camilleri won the 1st Division, having the better off Joe Zammit Pavia who managed the 2nd place. Unfortunately, this division had an incredible lack of participants due to unattended players who had better commitments. The matches involved the players were all won by Camilleri who did not qualify to play for the Premier Division for just some minimal points.

Samuel Bartolo wins the Malta Knock Out for the 2nd season
Samuel Bartolo obtains his second season in a row winning the Malta Knock Out and a direct World Cup qualification in the individual category.
